Colla-Gain™ is a pomegranate flower-derived two-component-based active ingredient that on the one hand promotes collagen synthesis and on the other decreases the breakdown of collagen by inhibiting MMP-1 production.

Collagen accounts for 70%-90% of the dry weight of the skin and plays a key role in maintaining the skin structure. The formation of new collagen fibres is therefore essential for young looking, healthy and firm skin.

The balance between collagen breakdown and collagen synthesis plays a crucial role in the processes of skin ageing. Environmental factors like UV irradiation acting on the skin and genetically-determined processes cause an increase in collagen breakdown and at the same time a reduction in the synthesis of new collagen, which results in an increased appearance of wrinkles. One of the enzymes responsible for collagen breakdown is matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1).
