LC Herbasol Extracts (LC = Lead compounds) comprise a class of standardized liquid extracts optimized for cosmetic applications.
The quality and batch-to-batch consistency of botanical extracts is crucial for their application as a raw material in the cosmetic industry. However, their phytochemical composition depends often on a variety of intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as
seasonalvariations, harvesting methods, storage conditions and the extraction process.
In order to have a marker for the quality and phytochemical composition of a certain extract, the concept of lead compounds has been introduced. Lead compounds are defined molecules or a defined class of substances being most typical for a given
extract. In most cases, they also represent the active constituent of the extract which is responsible for its intended cosmetic or pharmaceutic activity.
For LC Herbasol botanical extracts a range has been defined for each lead compound and extract. The mild and controlled manufacturing process together with our certified GMP procedures ensure a high level of reproducibility and consistency in production.
Chemical standardisation
The chemical standardization of LC Herbasol botanical extracts has been developed and optimized individually for each lead compound. Consequently, for the in-process-controls and the characterization of the final product, tailor-made analytical methods have been developed:
• High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for quantification
• High-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) for identity and visualisation of extract complexity.
