Nrf2 (NF-E2-related factor 2) is a transcription factor that normally resides in the cytoplasm (and anchored to its repressor keap-1). It induces up-regulation of detoxification and antioxidant genes, in particular NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1). It also regulates detoxification enzymes and the oxidative stress response.
